Apply to UIC - Graduate

This page is designed to aid Graduate applicants. We highly recommend you follow each step carefully. Mistakes can delay the processing of your application. Please keep this reference page open as you proceed through the application process.

The following graduate programs are NOT available on this Web Application. If you are interested in one of these programs, please contact the program directly for an application.


Do NOT create a second application in order to:

  • Pay the Application Fee by credit card
  • Add new information to your application
  • Edit or change previously submitted information

Duplicate applications will be automatically deleted and fee payments will NOT be recorded to your account. If you have already submitted an application and have questions about making changes or submitting your application fee payment please send us email.


Application Steps and Tips

1. Read through steps 1 through 3 in order to determine your application type. You will be prompted to begin the application in step 3.

2. Check the graduate application deadlines for the term to which you are applying and the admission requirements for the program of interest. Please note that admission requirements and documents vary for individual programs. Note: There are

a. Before proceeding, determine if you are a Domestic or International Applicant.

Domestic - an applicant who fits into any of these categories:

  • U.S. Citizen (born or naturalized)
  • U.S. Permanent Resident (must submit a copy of your permanent resident card)
  • Adjustment in Status (submitted application for permanent residency)
  • Asylee(must submit documentation)
  • Refugee(must submit documentation)
  • Humanitarian Parole
  • Non-citizen - Other (other categories do not apply to you)

International - The university considers any student who currently holds a visa of any type or is seeking a visa to be international. Even if you do not require a student (F or J) visa to attend UIC, you are viewed as an international applicant. Most policies that apply to those seeking student visas will apply to holders of other types of visas.

For the university's purposes, this is anyone who currently holds a visa of any type or who is in need of an I-20 or DS-2019.

4. Create a new account by clicking "First time user account creation."

You will be asked to create a Login ID and six digit Personal Identification Number.

5. Select your application type. Your options will differ depending on whether you apply as a domestic or international applicant.

Domestic options:
Graduate
Graduate Domestic Readmit
Graduate Non-Degree

International options:
Graduate International Readmit
International Graduate
International Non-Degree Grad

6. Select your admission term and fill in your first and last name.

7. Checklist
Next you will be brought to a Checklist page. Click on a section name to access that area of the web application. Fill out each section completely.

When you have completed a section, a red checkmark will appear by its name. Chechmark

 

International applicants will have an additional section titled "International Information."

8. Name
Start by filling out your name. This should be your full legal name as it would appear on all your other documents; do not use nicknames or abbreviations.

Please use upper and lower case when entering information. For instance, “JOHN SMITH” should be entered “John Smith.”

Click the "Checklist" button to return to the Checklist menu. Click the "Continue" button to proceed to the next section, "Permanent Address Information."

If at any time you wish to quit and resume applying later, click "Finish Later."

9. Permanent Address Information
Fill out your permanent address and telephone number. Do not abbreviate using periods, the pound sign (#) or commas.

Here is an example of correct address entry: 123 South Monroe Street.

This contact information will be added to your permanent record; after finishing this application, this information can only be changed by submitting a written request to the Office of Admissions and Records.

10. Mailing Address Information
Enter your mailing address. All correspondence from UIC will be sent to this address. Again, please do not abbreviate.

11. Personal Information
Citizenship
This section must be filled out correctly. An incorrect citizenship selection may delay the processing of your application. You may choose from the following citizenship options:

  • Adjusted in Status
  • Asylee
  • International
  • U.S. Permanent Resident
  • Non-Citizen-Other
  • Humanitarian Parole
  • Refugee
  • Resident Alien (IRS Purposes)
  • U.S. Citizen

Fill out the rest of your personal information. Be sure to verify your email address for accuracy, as it may be used to contact you throughout the application process. The same care should be applied when filling out your birth date, especially the year.

If you are a resident of Illinois, check "yes" to the question "Are you an Illinois resident?" If you have questions regarding your residency status and in-state tuition, refer to the University-Wide Student Programs web site.

12. Planned Course of Study
Select your degree program. Refer to the list of Graduate Programs for additional degree program requirements.

If your desired degree program is not listed in the drop-down box, it is for one of the following reasons:

  1. The program does not accept applications for the term you have requested.
  2. The program is closed and no longer accepting applications.
  3. The application deadline has passed.
  4. If your desired degree program is not listed,
    DO NOT
    select another program for which you do not intend to seek enrollment. Program codes will not be changed after submission.

List all universities/colleges you have attended. Use the "Lookup College Code" link to search for your college/university.

If your school does not appear to be listed in the lookup, first try searching with "unknown" for the city. If this too fails then type in the name of your institution.

Self report your test scores here. Please have official reports sent from ETS. Our test code is 1851.

This section is accessible to International applicants only. If this does not apply to you, skip ahead to the next section.

Please fill out this section as accurately as possible. Errors will delay the processing of your application.

This section contains information about:

  1. Other degrees completed
  2. References
  3. Financial Aid
  4. Application fee waivers
  5. Agreement Statement

Note: By clicking "yes" on the final question, you certify that all information entered into this web application is correct and complete.

18. Back to the Checklist
When all sections have been completed, a checkmark will be displayed next to each section's name (as indicated to the right).

If you want to pay with credit card, do not press "Application is Complete" until you are ready to submit your credit card information - you will not get a second chance to pay with credit card. If you are paying with check or money order or are ready to submit your credit card information, press "Application is Complete".

19. Application Fee Payment
This is where you determine the method of payment.

Domestic applicants pay a $50 fee.

International applicants pay $60 fee.

No action will be taken on your application until payment is received. Application fee waivers are only available for applicants who qualify.

If you wish to pay by credit card, payment must be made at this time. If choosing pay later, payment must be made by check or money order.

20. Payment Page
To complete your application, print the signature page. If you closed the window before printing, here is an alternate payment page.

21. Submit any additional required credentials
Check your program listing for information regarding any additional credentials.

International applicants
Please read International Admission Requirements for more information about required international credentials (TOEFL, additional forms, etc).
