UIC Graduate Level Certificate Programs
UIC has two categories of Certificate Programs, “IBHE” (Illinois Board of Higher Education) and “Campus.” IBHE Certificate Programs require the completion of more semester hours than Campus Certificate Programs. Students enrolled in an IBHE Certificate Program are considered degree-seeking, and students in a Campus Certificate Program are nondegree. Instruction in either category may be online, blended or face-to-face. (See UIC Online for UIC’s definitions of online and blended programs). Click here for more information about the individual certificates.
Students Applying to Online Certificate Programs
IBHE and Campus Certificates that have been approved as online programs are available to domestic and international applicants. Domestic and international applicants use the same application process. TOEFL scores are required for international applicants from non-English speaking countries. (Note, TOEFL scores must be reported directly to UIC by ETS. Paper score reports will not be accepted as official scores unless they are sent to our office directly by ETS.) The Declaration and Certification of Finances form is not required for international applicants for online certificates.
Students Applying to Blended or Face-to-Face Certificate Programs
IBHE Certificates that are approved as blended (a combination of online, blended and face-to face courses) or face-to-face only are available to domestic and international applicants. Domestic and international applicants use the same application process. TOEFL scores are required for international applicants from non-English speaking countries. (Note, TOEFL scores must be reported directly to UIC by ETS. Paper score reports will not be accepted as official scores unless they are sent to our office directly by ETS.) The Declaration and Certification of Finances form is required for international applicants for blended and face-to-face certificates.
Campus Certificates that are approved as blended (a combination of online, blended and face-to face courses) or face-to-face only are available to domestic applicants or international applicants who do not require a student visa. Applicants who need a visa to enroll for blended or face-to-face Campus Certificates are not eligible for admission unless already registered in a graduate degree program at UIC.
