Apply to UIC - Undergraduate

This page is designed to aid Undergraduate applicants. We highly recommend you follow each step carefully. Mistakes can delay the processing of your application. Please keep this reference page open as you proceed through the application process.


Do NOT create a second application in order to:

  • Pay the Application Fee by credit card
  • Add new information to your application
  • Edit or change previously submitted information

Duplicate applications will be automatically deleted and fee payments will NOT be recorded to your account. If you have already submitted an application and have questions about making changes or submitting your application fee payment please send us email.


Application Steps and Tips

1. Obtain an Application:

Note: there are special instructions for how to apply as a transfer student in Elementary Education

2. Check the undergraduate application deadlines for the term to which you are applying.

Please note - Second Bachelor's Degree candidates cannot apply online and must submit a paper application and letter of petition.

3. Consult the Admission Requirements for a list of individual requirements. Please not that some majors require the submission of supplemental materials. Checking your major requirements is highly recommended.

 

4. Before proceeding, determine if you are a Domestic or International Applicant.

Domestic - an applicant who fits into any of these categories:

  • U.S. Citizen (born or naturalized)
  • U.S. Permanent Resident (must submit a copy of your permanent resident card)
  • Adjustment in Status (submitted application for permanent residency)
  • Asylee (must submit documentation)
  • Refugee (must submit documentation)
  • Humanitarian Parole
  • Non-citizen - Illinois Schooled
    You fit into this category if you can answer yes to all of the following:
    • Did/will you graduate from an Illinois high school or attain a GED in Illinois?
    • Did/will you attend school in Illinois for at least 3 years during K-12?
    • Did/will you live with your parents while you attended school in Illinois?
  • Non-citizen - Other (other categories do not apply to you)

International - an applicant who is a citizen or permanent resident alien of a country or political area other than the United States and who has a residence outside the United States to which he or she expects to return and either is, or proposes to be, a temporary alien in the United States for educational purposes. Any applicant who holds a VISA or who is a citizen or resident of any country other than the United States falls under the International Applicant category.

5. Create a new account by clicking "First time user account creation."

You will be asked to create a Login ID and six digit Personal Identification Number.

6. Select your application type. Your options will differ depending on whether you apply as a domestic or international applicant.

Domestic options:
Freshman
Transfer
Undergraduate Domestic Readmit
Undergraduate Non-Degree

International options:
International Freshman
International Transfer
Undergraduate Int. Readmit

7. Select your admission term and fill in your first and last name.

8. Checklist
Next you will be brought to a Checklist page. Click on a section name to access that area of the web application. Fill out each section completely.

When you have completed a section, a red checkmark will appear by its name. Chechmark



International applicants will have an additional section titled "International Information."

9. Name
Start by filling out your name. This should be your full legal name as it would appear on all your other documents; do not use nicknames or abbreviations.

Click the "Checklist" button to return to the Checklist menu. Click the "Continue" button to proceed to the next section, "Permanent Address Information."

If at any time you wish to quit and resume applying later, click "Finish Later."

10. Permanent Address Information
Fill out your permanent address and telephone number. Do not abbreviate using periods, the pound sign (#) or commas.

Here is an example of correct address entry: 123 South Monroe Street.

This contact information will be added to your permanent record; after finishing this application, this information can only be changed by submitting a written request to the Office of Admissions and Records.

11. Mailing Address Information
Enter your mailing address. All correspondence from UIC will be sent to this address. Again, please do not abbreviate.

12. Personal Information
Citizenship
This section must be filled out correctly. An incorrect citizenship selection may delay the processing of your application. You may choose from the following citizenship options:

  • Adjusted in Status
  • Asylee
  • International
  • U.S. Permanent Resident
  • Non-Citizen - Other
  • Non-Citizen - Illinois Schooled
  • Not reported
  • Humanitarian Parole
  • Refugee
  • Resident Alien (IRS Purposes)
  • U.S. Citizen

Fill out the rest of your personal information. Be sure to verify your email address for accuracy, as it may be used to contact you throughout the application process. The same care should be applied when filling out your birth date, especially the year.

If you are a resident of Illinois, check "yes" to the question "Are you an Illinois resident?"

If you have questions regarding your residency status and in-state tuition, refer to the University-Wide Student Programs web site.

13. Planned Course of Study
Choose your major. Refer to the Major Listing (pdf) for additional major requirements.

If your desired major is not listed in the drop-down box, it is for one of the following reasons:

  1. The program does not accept applications for the term you have requested.
  2. The program is closed and no longer accepting applications.
  3. The application deadline has passed.
  4. If your desired major is not listed,
    DO NOT
    select another program for which you do not intend to seek enrollment. Program codes will not be changed after submission.

If you are selecting a major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and are planning on pursuing a professional program, please select an Advising Track from the choices below and enter it in the box:

EE = Pre-Elementary Education
HI = Pre-Health Information Management
HN = Pre-Human Nutrition
PD = Pre-Dentistry
PL = Pre-Law
PM = Pre-Medicine
PN = Pre-Nursing
PO = Pre-Occupational Therapy
PP = Pre-Physical Therapy
PV = Pre-Veterinary Science
PY = Pre-Pharmacy

If your school does not appear to be listed in the lookup, first try searching with "unknown" for the city. If this too fails then type in the name of your institution.

When all sections have been completed, a checkmark will be displayed next to each section's name (as indicated to the right).

Press the "Application is Complete" button.

21. Application Fee Payment
This is where you determine the method of payment. Domestic applicants pay a $40 application fee. International applicants must submit $50.

No action will be taken on your application until payment is received.

If you wish to pay by credit card, payment must be made at this time. If choosing pay later, payment must be made by check or money order.

To complete your application, print the signature page. If you closed the window before printing, here is an alternate payment page.

Freshman applicants only
Fill in the high school course form and submit these pages to your high school counselor for certification (if applicable). Have your counselor send the documents along with your transcript to our office as soon as possible. If you are paying your application fee by check or money order, give it to your counselor to include with these pages and your transcript.

If you are out of high school, just sign the document; include your application fee if you are paying by check or money order; and request that your high school send us your official high school transcript. You do not have to have the Counselor Form completed.

Other applicants
Sign the document and mail to us with your application fee.

23. Submit any additional required credentials
Your application will not be complete until you finish the following steps.

Freshmen

  1. Mail us your application fee, high school transcripts and the signature page (signed by your high school counselor).
  2. Include your official GED scores in the same envelope if you have completed the General Education Development (GED) test.
  3. Send official scores from the American College Test (ACT), the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), or the Scholastic Assessment Test I (SAT-I). Test scores listed on the high school transcripts will be accepted as official.

Transfer applicants

  1. Mail us your application fee and the signature page.
  2. Send official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
  3. If you are currently enrolled in another school, remember to have a final transcript sent when all of your work is completed.

International applicants
Please read International Admission Requirements for more information about required credentials (TOEFL, additional forms, etc).
