Freshman Admission Requirements

A beginning freshman applicant at UIC must meet the following requirements:

  1. Complete and sign printed or online application
  2. Submit the non-refundable application fee
    • $40 for domestic and immigrant applicants
    • $50 for international applicants
  3. Be at least 16 years of age. A 15-year-old applicant who meets all other admission requirements may petition for admission.
  4. Submit evidence of graduation from an accredited high school, or submit passing scores on the General Educational Development (GED) test.
  5. Complete the American College Test (ACT*) or the College Board Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or Scholastic Assessment Test-I (SAT-I).
  6. Present a satisfactory combination of class rank and ACT or SAT test scores.
  7. Satisfy the minimum high school subject requirements. All applicants must have successfully completed the following high school courses in order to be eligible for admission to UIC.

    • Four years of English
    • Three years of Mathematics (must include algebra, geometry, advanced algebra/ trigonometry)
    • Three years of Science
    • Three years of Social Science
    • Two years of Language** (other than English)
    • One year of an elective
  8. *The ACT Writing Test is recommended but not required. Save money! When sending ACT test scores to UIC, there is no need to request the Priority Report option. We are already set up to receive ACT test scores as fast as ACT can send them to us, and we receive Priority Reports no sooner than Regular Reports.

    **Sign language does not count as a foreign language

Homeschooled students must satisfy all of the above requirements. A homeschool transcript is acceptable if it includes: (1) a list of all subjects/ courses attempted by year; (2) grades or examination results received (both passing and failing); (3) maximum and minimum grades obtainable; and (4) number of units earned.

A Student will not be automatically denied if he/she has incomplete requirements. A review of the application will be made and a decision will be made based on a totality of the applicant's high school academic performance and ACT/SAT scores.
