Summer Session Only Application – Who is it for?
The Summer Session Only application is intended for students who want to enroll in undergraduate level courses for credit during either the 4-week or the 8-week summer session, or both sessions, but do not intend to continue their studies at UIC in the fall.
This application is valid only for the 2008 Summer Sessions. If you wish to apply for a different term, you will need to submit an Undergraduate Application by the application deadline for that specific term. Note: The fall Undergraduate Application deadlines are earlier than the deadline for the Summer Session Only application.
Eligibility for Summer Session
You are eligible to attend the summer session at the University of Illinois at Chicago if you are a high school graduate or have earned your GED. If you have attended another college or university, you must be in good standing at that institution. Also, if you have previously attended UIC, you must have been in good standing. If you are an international student, please check the International Applicant Instructions to find out if you are eligible to apply.
Application Deadlines
Please note there are two different application deadlines (explained below) for Summer Session 2008, depending whether you want to enroll in courses in the 4-week or 8-week session.
If you want to enroll in courses in both the 4-week and 8-week session, you do not need to submit a separate application for each session. You will only need to complete one application and submit it by the 4-week session deadline.
4-week Session Application Deadline:
If you want to enroll in the 4-week session or both the 4-week and 8-week session, the deadline for completing and submitting the application is 11:59 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2008. (The 4-week deadline has been extended from the original deadline date of Friday, May 9). Any applications submitted after this deadline will be valid for admission to the 8-week session only.
8-week Session Application Deadline:
If you want to enroll only in 8-week session, the deadline for completing and submitting the application is 11:59 pm on Friday, June 6, 2008.
Application Fee
There is no fee for the Summer Session Only application.
Application Processing and Decision Period
Once the Office of Admissions receives your completed application, they will review it and notify you by mail of their decision. You should receive a decision letter approximately two weeks after applying.
Applicants who are admitted for the 2008 Summer Session will be mailed information about course registration with their Notice of Admission letter.
You can check application status on the web. Please note that if you check your application status immediately after submitting it, the system may indicate that you need to provide high school and/or college transcripts. However, Summer Session Only applicants are not required to provide these transcripts.
Financial Aid Note
If you apply as a Summer Session Only student, you are admitted as a nondegree student and will not be eligible for financial aid through UIC. If you have financial aid at your current institution, you may be able to use it as a Summer Session Only student at UIC. Contact the financial aid office at your school and ask for information on "financial aid consortium agreements."
Previous Summer Session Only Applicants
When you apply as a Summer Session Only student, your admission is valid only for the summer for which you applied. If you would like to attend the 2008 Summer Session, you will need to complete the 2008 Summer Session Only application, even if you previously applied to UIC.
If you applied as a Summer Session Only student prior to the 2005 Summer Session, you may recall that UIC required a Good Standing Statement or an official transcript with your application. The Good Standing Statement or any equivalent documents are no longer required for admission. Simply complete and submit the online application to apply.
UIC Summer Schedule of Classes
You can view our overview of summer courses, which has separate lists of courses offered in the 4-week and 8-week sessions, or check the Summer Schedule of Classes for details about meeting days and times.
Please be aware that when you look at courses in the online Schedule of Classes, you will not find separate lists of courses for the 4-week and 8-week sessions in each department. However, the information for each course section will include the specific meeting times for the course to indicate if it meets during the 4-week or 8-week session.
Selecting Courses
Please review the UIC course descriptions to help you select courses and to determine whether you have the academic background for them. You may also want to review these descriptions with an academic advisor at your home school to determine if you have the appropriate background. We also recommend that you check if the courses you are interested in have any restrictions, or require permission to register. If you have questions about your qualifications for taking a particular course, please contact the appropriate academic department.
If you intend to transfer your summer courses back to your home school, it is up to your home school to determine whether the courses will transfer, so please bring copies of the course descriptions to your advisor.
Application Steps
We highly recommend that you carefully read through all of the steps below before beginning the application. You may complete the application in one sitting, or do part of it now and return to finish and submit it later. Please note that the application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on May 9, 2008 for the 4-week session or 11:59 PM on June 6, 2008 for the 8-week session.
