Internet Jobsite Links
The following are just a few of the many internet job sites available online. These sites are useful for learning about careers, obtaining information about salaries and companies, and for getting a sense of the types of jobs available. However, using the internet by itself is not the most effective way to find a job.
TIPS FOR USING THE INTERNET FOR YOUR JOB SEARCH
- DO NOT RELY ON THE INTERNET TO FIND A JOB. Use job websites as one of several strategies to find the right job, not the only strategy.
- Don’t blanket the web with your resume, more applications is not necessarily better. Target specific jobs and companies as opposed to mass e-mailing hundreds of resumes.
- Look at the websites of individual companies or agencies that you are interested in. Websites of professional associations are often very useful as well.
- Do your own search for job sites specific to your discipline or desired career. Usually the smaller or more targeted websites (i.e., focusing on particular industries or majors) are more useful.
- If you see a job posting you’re interested in on a internet site, try to go directly to the employer’s website and apply directly rather than through the job board.
