Norman Rockwell's
Four Freedoms Further Sources
While heavily commercialized,
the website for the Norman Rockwell
Museum contains a wealth of information, little of it analytic
or critical, but still useful especially for purposes of teaching.
Similarly, the book that accompanied
the Washington, DC exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in 2004 (Norman
Rockwell's Four Freedoms: Images that inspire a nation) are
full of information but their origins in the Rockwell Museum mean
that the picture is unrelentingly rosy.
Probably the best single book
is Norman Rockwell: Pictures for the American People, a
catalogue for a very different show in 2000. While still lavish
in its praise, it is also based in real research and the talents
of serious art historians and critics, including the superb work
of Wanda Corn.
