Creative nonfiction is a hybrid genre combining the concrete and the general, fact and opinion and narration and imagery, all grounded in the writer's very visible psyche. Included in this popular (and marketable) form are memoirs and personal essays, new and gonzo journalism, reviews and humor and even reality-based novels and autobiographical poems, not to mention food writing, travel writing and nature writing. In fact, almost any subject you can make interesting qualifies.

In this supportive course, we will explore the techniques of creative nonfiction: the dialog, description and dramatic pacing of story-telling; the imagery and aural effects of poetry; and the logic, rhetoric, research and personal engagement of the essay. We will tackle the challenge of getting your facts straight, being true to the story and making it come alive on the page.

Learn how to turn your passions into truly creative nonfiction and be inspired by the passions of others in the class.
