Technical writing-writing that helps people work with systems and products-is a skill needed for on-the-job success as well as a career path for professional writers. Introduction to Technical Writing, an interactive online course guided by an experienced technical writer, will explore technical writing with a focus on writing processes and procedures. After participating in this course, you will be able to define technical writing, recognize the characteristics of typical technical documents and use practices and methodologies of technical writing. Through online readings, discussions and activities, you will plan a technical writing project, develop a writing sample and create an action plan for continuing to develop as a technical writer.

Online learning offers the convenience you need to make professional development a part of your busy life. Our virtual classroom operates on an "asynchronous" basis, rather than a fixed time. You can log on to the course web site when it fits your schedule to work on assignments and interact with the instructor and fellow students.

Introduction to Technical Writing is designed for people whose jobs involve technical writing as well as for those who are considering a career in technical writing. Participants should plan to spend 8-10 hours per week on course activities. Enrollment is strictly limited to 20.
