Brazil Scientific Mobility program (BSMP)

Student Category and Length of Stay

BSMP students are to be enrolled in two academic semesters, as non-degree student for-credit and full time.

Non-immigrant Visa Documentation

IIE, as the visa sponsor, will issue BSMP students immigration forms under the Non-degree Student category, and along with the U.S. Consulates in Brazil, will assist them in obtaining their visas. UIC is NOT required to issue any visa documentation or assist in the visa process, and will not responsible for maintaining their visa status.

Funding and Scholarship Benefits

BSMP students are fully funded by the Government of Brazil, Ministry of Education (CAPES) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (CNPq).

CAPES/CNPq will provide students with a monthly stipend of $300. This stipend is paid quarterly and is directly deposited by CAPES/CNPq into their U.S. bank accounts. CAPES/CNPq will also provide them with a one-time settling-in allowance of $1300 and one-time coursework aid allowance of $1000 to help cover initial expenses. CAPES/CNPq will deposit these allowances into their bank accounts in Brazil prior to their departure. Students are also provided with round-trip travel from Brazil to the city of their host institution as part of their BSMP scholarship.

IIE will pay, on behalf of CAPES/CNPq and the students, the cost of tuition, room, board and health insurance upon receipt of an invoice. Housing must be in shared living arrangements (dorm room, suite, on-campus apartment). Board is to be taken at the dining facilities of the host institution and will be for a maximum of three meals a day (or the equivalent number of points).
