In Memoriam Allan Lerner, 1947-2011

We regret to announce that the former director of the Office of International Affairs at UIC, Dr. Allan Lerner, passed away this week after a long illness. Dr. Lerner served as a professor and administrator at UIC since 1977, ending his career as the Associate Provost for International Affairs, a position he held for over 10 years. Through his position in OIA he led collaborations in research, education and public service. We look forward to the continued growth of our partnerships, which were established under Dr. Lerner's guidance.

Ceremony to be held on November 4th at 3:00p.m in the Dean's Room, in the first floor of the Behavioral Sciences Building

Scholarships and Grants Available for 2011-2012!!

Nuveen International Development Fund

The John Nuveen Center for International Affairs is currently accepting applications for the 2011 International Development Fund. 

We are pleased to announce that Ten $1,000 awards are available for 2011.

The competition is open to all UIC faculty.

The awards are intended to encourage international program development at UIC by supporting faculty in activities that will result in an internationally enriched academic environment.  Typically, proposals may involve, but need not be limited to:

-the initiation, strengthening, or expansion of collaborative programs; and

-student and faculty exchanges, fellowships, and professional development programs.

Proposals may include international travel.

The deadline for this competition is November 28, 2011.

Everett and Florence Drumright Scholarship

UIC students who are American-born of Chinese descent are invited to apply for the Everett and Florence Drumright Scholarship for Fall 2011. Successful applicants will receive $1,000.

Ten scholarships are available to eligible UIC students.

 

Eligibility for the scholarship is limited to:

-UIC students who are American-born of Chinese descent
- Students who will have completed at least one year of course work by December 9, 2011
- Students who have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 combining all post high school grades

Students in all fields are eligible.

The application deadline for Fall 2011 is November 28, 2011.

John and Grace Nuveen International Awards 2011-2012

UIC students are invited to apply for the 2011-2012 John and Grace Nuveen International Awards. The John and Grace Nuveen International Awards have been established in honor of John and Grace Nuveen, and are intended to assist UIC students with expenses related to the OIA/Nuveen Center Exchange Program in which they are participating.  Fourteen awards of $500 will be offered.  Awards may be used to support travel, lodging, and personal expenses related to the OIA exchange program.

Eligibility is limited to UIC undergraduate/graduate students who:

-will have completed at least one year of course work as of December 9, 2011;

-have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale;

-are participating in an Office of International Affairs or John Nuveen Center international, educational program.

 

Students participating in Exchange Programs in all fields are eligible.  Candidates must not have previously received a Nuveen International Award.  Awards presume that nominees are in good academic standing.

Chicago Consular Corps Scholarship 2010-2011

UIC students are invited to apply for the Chicago Consular Corps Scholarship for the academic year 2010-2011.  Ten successful applicants will each receive $1,000.

Nine scholarships are available for foreign students studying at UIC.  One scholarship is available for a US national studying at UIC.  Undergraduates as well as graduates may apply.  Students in all fields are eligible. 

Eligibility for this scholarship is limited to students who have a minimum cumulative UIC GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 point scale).

The application deadline is October 29, 2010 at 4:30pm.
