John Nay

Nay served as Diplomat in Residence at UIC from 2012-2013, and greatly enjoyed working with students and others in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Ambassador Nay had most recently served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Suriname from 2009-2012. Earlier tours of duty abroad included Toronto, Canada as Consul General; New Delhi, India as Consul General; Johannesburg, South Africa as Deputy Principal Officer/Regional Consular Officer; as well as assignments in Calgary, Canada; Singapore; and Taiwan. Ambassador Nay had served in the State Department as Director for African Regional & Security Affairs, as Deputy Director for Pacific Island Affairs, as a Senior Inspector in the Office of the Inspector General, and as an analyst in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research. Ambassador Nay is language qualified in Chinese (Mandarin), and holds a B.A. (Honors) in History and an M.A. in History from Andrews University, and an M.S. in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University (National War College).

Doria Rosen

Doria RosenDoria was born in New York City on September 7, 1950. After attending local public schools she graduated from Vassar College in 1972 with an A.B. in psychology and a minor in education. In 1975 she received a J.D. from Hofstra University Law School. She was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1976, the Military Court of Appeals in 1976, and to the California State Bar in 1977.

Kathy A. Johnson

Kathy A. JohnsonA career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the U.S. Department of State, Ms. Johnson served as the Diplomat in Residence at the University of Illinois in Chicago and a resource to universities located in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, North Dakota and Northern Missouri.

Ms. Johnson received her Bachelor in Arts (BA) degree in History from the Aurora College, Aurora, IL, class of 1977; and a Masters (MBA) in Business Administration , Executive MBA at Texas A&M University, College Station, TX in 2003. She is a graduate of the Air War College, Maxwell Air Force Base, AL, with the master's degree in National Security Strategy, class of 2007.

Maurice S. Parker

Ambassador Maurice Parker received his Maurice S. ParkerBachelor in Arts (BA) degree in Political Science from the University of California Berkeley, class of 1972; and a Masters (MA) in Education Administration at San Francisco State University in 1974.  He is a graduate of the National Defense University, Industrial College of the Armed Forces, class of 1993.

Ambassador Parker, a Minister Counselor in the Foreign Service, has served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Swaziland, and has served in U.S. Embassies at Guyana, Spain, Nigeria, Colombia, and Mexico.

Brian Flora

Brian FloraAs Diplomat in Residence at UIC, Brian Flora was at UIC for the 2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years. Mr. Flora received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University in Boston and served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1972 before earning his doctorate in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He joined the State Department in 1976, and he later entered the ranks of the Senior Foreign Service in 1994. Here he was honored to serve as Consular General in both Bern, Switzerland and Berlin, Germany. Mr. Flora is a valuable addition to international affairs programs at UIC.

Anthony Benesch

Anthony BeneschAs part of the State Department Diplomat in Residence Program, Counselor in the Foreign Service Anthony Benesch worked with students interested in preparing for a career in the diplomatic service. Mr. Benesch was available to faculty, graduate and undergraduate students on matters relevant to their studies concerning diplomacy and international affairs.

Deborah Schwartz

Deborah SchwartzDeborah Schwartz is a Minister Counselor in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. She has served as the senior Economic Officer in Mexico, Israel, Taiwan and Nigeria and also as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Honduras. Ms. Schwartz received her B.A. in Latin American Studies and M.B.A. in International Business from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She currently serves as Diplomat in Residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Ronald Godard

Ronald GodardAmbassador Ronald Godard, a Minister Counselor in the Foreign Service, has served in U.S. Embassies in Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Chile, Argentina, Turkey, and as U.S. Ambassador to Guyana.  He has served under eight presidents. Mr. Godard received a B.A. in History and a M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas.
