UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP FOR STUDY IN JAPAN, 2007-2008

Thanks to an agreement with Chiba University, UIC students are eligible to apply for a scholarship to study at Chiba during the 2007-2008 academic year. Chiba University is located less than an hour by train from the center of Tokyo. Students applying to the Japan Program at Chiba(J-PAC) must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 for all coursework beyond high school (3.0 required for scholarship consideration). Social Sciences and Humanities applicants must have taken two years of Japanese language study. Science, Business, and Engineering applicants must have taken one year of Japanese language study. Most courses in the program are offered in English. Areas of study while at Chiba can include Japanese studies, humanities, social studies, natural sciences and engineering. Students will also have the opportunity for intensive Japanese language study.

Successful applicants will receive one of two scholarships: the Japanese Government Scholarship or the Jasso Scholarship. Each award provides round-trip airfare and a monthly stipend sufficient to cover basic living expenses during their studies in Japan. Additional financial aid may also be available. Students pay the usual UIC tuition during their stay at Chiba University and receive UIC credit for courses taken there.

Calendar

Students may only apply for the Chiba University academic year program (October 1, 2007 to August 1, 2008).

Deadline

The UIC application deadline is February 16, 2007.
