Funding for Activities in Europe

  • Graduate Study and Research in the U.K. The British Council, Education Information Service. Gives official advice on study opportunities in the U.K. at the graduate and research level. Includes program information, addresses, and funding. Email: uk@bc-washingtondc.sprint.com


  • Travel Grants for Research Trips to Sweden. Qualified American citizens with well-developed projects in the fields of politics, public administration, mass media, business and industry, working life, human environment, education and culture may apply for travel grants from the Bicentennial Swedish-American Exchange Fund.


  • Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship Program. Nine-month work/study fellowships program in Germany (some travel to Paris, Brussels, and Poland). Applicants should possess a graduate degree and professional experience in business Administration, Economics, journalism/Mass communications, Law, Political Science, or Public Affairs/Public Policy. Knowledge of German is strongly recommended, though not required for application.


  • American School of Classical Studies. To offer both graduate students and scholars the opportunity to study Greek civilization (literature, archaeology, history, or related field) first hand, in Greece.


  • Institute of International Education. Fellowship program for young American researchers in professional, policy and public administration-related fields who want to develop a specialized knowledge of the East and Central Europe.


  • Alexander von Humboldt Foundation: Bundeskanzler (Federal Chancellor) Scholarship. These scholarships are for exceptionally able young Americans to study in Germany such fields as the humanities, social sciences, law and economics at universities and institutions.


  • German Academic Exchange Service. Grants for study and research in Germany. UIC Graduate students interested in this program should contact the Coordinator of Fellowships and Finanacial Aid in the Graduate College.


  • Programs for Cultural Cooperation between Spain's Ministry of Culture and United States Universities. Grants available for individual research, publications, dissemination and study of Spanish cinema, symposia and seminars, subsidies for professional associations, and dissemination of Spanish culture through the arts. 612-625-98888 or zimme001@tc.umn.edu


  • Bundestag Internship Program. A scholarship program for students with a bachelors. Advanced study program at Humboldt University in Berlin and a four-month internship in the German Parliament. Advanced German required.


  • Awards for Study in Scandinavia. American Scandinavian Foundation. Applicants must have a well-defined research or study project that makes a stay in Scandinavia essential.


  • Graduate &amp Postgraduate Study &amp Research in Poland. Kosciuszko Foundation, Inc. Enables American students to pursue a course of graduate or postgraduate study and research in Poland for an academic year or semester. Must possess a working knowledge of the Polish language.


  • Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation. Research grants and educational scholarships for foreign scholars, teachers of the Greek language and graduate students. These scholarships and grants are intended to encourage research and study in Greece and are open primarily to non-Greek scholars.
