Known as one of the top business schools in South America, Fundacao Getulio Vargas offers students wold-class instruction in a lively and action-packed city.  Courses are offered in both English and Portuguese and students are able to attend for one semester or one full academic year.  For more information, please contact Kristin Kutella at kkutella@uic.edu.

College Restrictions:  This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Business. 

Language Requirement:  None if courses are to be taken in English.  Proficiency in Portuguese is required of students taking courses in Portuguese.

Language of Instruction:  Portuguese and English

School year: 

1st semester:  January- July  (Free Intensive Portuguese courses are given in January.  Courses from the regular curriculum start in February.)

2nd semester:  July- December  (Free Intensive Portuguese courses are given in July.  Courses from the regular curriculum start in early August.)

Courses:  Courses are available in the following areas:  Finance, Economics, Human Resources, Production and Operations, Business Law and Political Sciences, and Information Systems.

Undergraduate Programs:  IPM (International Program in Management)

“FGV-EAESP’S International Program in Management (IPM) provides students with know-how and expertise required to succeed in the new international business arena. The IPM is diversified and up-to-date and provides students with knowledge tools in both national and international scenarios. The IPM also encourages cross cultural aptitudes, offers valuable experience and bridges academic education and practical management. Thus, it offers the ultimate fast track to success in the international arena.  The IPM is fully taught in English by FGV-EAESP’s faculty members over a six month period divided in two modules. The disciplines are offered as elective courses inside the Undergraduate Regular Program.”

Graduate Programs:  MPGI- MSc in International Management

“The Mestrado Profissional em Gest㣯Internacional (MPGI) is a Master's degree from FGV-EAESP that provides talented students with the required expertise to succeed in the new global business environment. This graduate Programme offers double degree opportunities with some of the most prestigious business schools and institutions. These agreements were established to meet the increasing demand of Brazilian and transnational organizations for graduates with international and multidisciplinary competences.”  This program is taught in English.

Course Format:  The class format is usually based in lectures, seminars, and cases.  Class participation is strongly encouraged by Faculty Members (usually counts 20%- 30% of the final grade).  Attendance is mandatory.  Size of the classes ranges between 30-50 students.

Exams may be conducted in class or be taken home, depending on the course.  They are performed over the last week of the classes and generally are written exams.

Final grades are generally based on participation, oral and written presentations, case analyses, mid-term and final exams.

Deadlines:

Students must submit all application materials to Kristin Kutella by the following deadlines:

1st Semester (Jan.- Jul.):  September 1

2nd Semester (Jul.- Dec.):  March 1

Requirements:

At least a 2.8 GPA for undergraduates

At least a 3.0 GPA for graduate students

Must be a currently-enrolled, degree-seeking student at UIC

Must have spent at least two semesters at UIC before participating in program

*Graduate-level business students must have work experience to be eligible for the FGV exchange program

Internships:  The Career Placement Office at FGV assists exchange students on how to contact companies that offer internship opportunities during their stay in Brazil.  In order to qualify for these services, an application (included in the registration package) should be filled out, attached to a resume and sent to the International Relations Office, at least one month before arrival.
