University of Guadalajara, Mexico

The University of Guadalajara program is one of the newest programs being offered through the Office of International Affairs at UIC.  Please contact Kristin Kutella in the Office of International Affairs at kkutella@uic.edu with any questions.

College Restrictions:  Open to graduates and undergraduates at UIC from all colleges, as long as the University of Guadalajara has the same area of study located at their campus. 

Language Requirement:  Intermediate Spanish.  Students must submit one reference letter from a member of the Spanish department to prove Spanish level.  If the applicant is a native speaker, the student must be evaluated by the Spanish department. 

Language of Instruction:  Spanish

School year: 

Fall Semester:  Late August – Mid December

Spring Semester:  February (1st Tuesday) – June (3rd Friday)

Students may apply as full-year exchange students, fall semester exchange students, or spring semester exchange students.

Location:

The University of Guadalajara houses 14 campuses in the state of Jalisco, Mexico.  Students participating in the exchange would most likely attend a campus in downtown Guadalajara.

Housing:

The University of Guadalajara does not offer on-campus residence.  The International Office offers assistance in finding housing by offering guidance with neighborhoods, range of costs, required paperwork, etc…  The International Office also provides a list of families who offer homestay options. 

Deadlines:

Students must submit all application materials to Kristin Kutella by the following deadlines:

Fall Semester:  April 1

Spring Semester:  September 20

Requirements:

At least a 2.8 GPA

Must be a currently-enrolled, degree-seeking student at UIC

Must have spent at least two semesters at UIC before participating in program

Notes:

As an exchange student, language courses through the “Centro de Estudios Para Extranjeros” are not included.  In some cases, exchange students may receive a discount on these courses.

Tuition and fees:                                 Student’s usual UIC tuition and fees

Food:                                                   4,500MXP/ month

Transportation:                                    1,000MXP/month

Rent (apartment):                                3,500MXP/month

Books, Copies, etc…                          2,500MXP/semester

International Health Insurance:          4,000MXP/semester   

Roundtrip Flight to Guadalajara:        8,000MXP

Estimated total for 1 semester                        59,500MXP   ~   $4,500/semester (in addition to UIC tuition and fees)
