Universidad del Desarrollo, Chile

“Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) is known to be one of the best private universities in Chile. It has 5 modern campuses, 2 in Santiago and 3 in Concepcion. Its professorial staff stands out not only for its academic excellence but also its significant and active contribution to the country’s development.  Personalized treatment is a distinctive seal of UDD. The ongoing contact between professors and students facilitates learning in an open and close university environment. Extracurricular activities complement the heavy academic load. Students can participate in a wide variety of athletics, recreational activities, drama, social activities, community aid workshops and student events, which are a fundamental part of their formation as integral individuals and professionals.”

Location:

There are two UDD locations in Santiago:  San Carlos de Apoquindo & Las Condes.  In Concepcion there are three locations:  Ainavillo, Barros Arana & Pedro de Valdivia.

Santiago: “Santiago, Chile, is the capital and principal urban nucleus of Chile. The Metropolitan Area it forms is also called Greater Santiago, or simply Santiago, and it is the capital of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago.  In 2002, the metropolis measured 641.4 km² and had a population of 5,428,590 inhabitants, equal to close to 35.9% of the total population in the nation. Santiago is therefore also the seventh most inhabited city in Latin America and one of the 45 largest metropolitan areas in the world.  The city of Santiago is home to the main government agencies (except for the National Congress, located in Valparaíso) and to the leading financial, administrative, commercial and cultural institutions in the country. It is also the headquarters of ECLA and is considered to be the third leading city in Latin America with the best quality of life, after Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Finally, it is ranked 53 in terms of income in the world, with a GDP (PPA) of US$91 billion in 2005, estimated to be US$160 billion by 2020.

Santiago is a city of great contrasts where there is much outdoor life. Several sports are practiced, such as diving, mountain climbing, skiing, hang-gliding and horse-riding.”

Concepcion:  “Concepción is the industrial, cultural and university capital of the south of Chile. Throughout the year, thousands of young people from all over the country arrive to study at the prestigious universities in the city. It is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and unforgettable routes for those who visit it. Just an hour from the city are the Chillan Hot Springs, where you can ski, practice adventure sports and enjoy the incredible mountain countryside.”

Housing:

UDD does not offer on-campus housing.  The International Relations Office provides information, contacts and counsel for students, assisting them in finding the best housing place in Chile during their exchange period. These places may be either in university residence halls, family housing or shared apartments.”
