Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is the principal board of the Institute from whom the IESP staff seeks feedback, assistance, and counsel on the development of research themes, evolution of programs, and allocation of resources. The committee composition is drawn from faculty at UIC who are appointed to initial three year terms, renewable thereafter, by the Director with the concurrence of the Vice Chancellor for Research and other appropriate administrators. The committee meets at regular intervals during the fall and spring semesters, and at other times as needed. The functions of the steering committee are to:

Identify strengths and opportunities within UIC that are amenable to the development of cross-disciplinary research, pedagogy, and programmatic themes
Assume leadership roles in support of the mission of the Institute through the organization of collaborative research initiatives and other scholarly pursuits
Promote the activities of the Institute through formal and informal discussion with faculty, staff, and administrators at UIC as well as the greater community of environmental scholars locally and at large
Participate in the activities and programs of the Institute
Serve on Institute standing and ad hoc subcommittees
Suggest appropriate candidates for the External Advisory Board
