UIC’s 3rd Annual Bystander Film Festival
2014 Theme: Camera in Action


The 3rd Annual Beyond > Violence Bystander Film Festival is launching the 2014 call for entries, inviting filmmakers around the world to submit short films, public service announcements, documentaries, and experimental works that aim to promote a world without interpersonal violence. The one day film festival will take place on April 4th. The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 14th. Accepted films will be eligible for the category of Audience Award and Programmers’ Choice Award. Award winners will automatically be entered for an opportunity to win the Reel Change Award with an honorary $300.  Filmmakers will be notified of their acceptance March 21st.

Please read the guidelines below before submitting. Complete the entry form and mail with your screener submission. Email Daniel K. Cairo to inform of submission intent. All materials must be clearly labeled with the name of the film, short synopsis, and the name of the person submitting it.

Films MUST be submitted on single DVD. Films not in English must contain subtitles.

Beyond > Violence is a short film contest and one of the only film festivals at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This video contest and festival aims to promote discussions around the practice of bystander intervention, and to use film to discuss issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and community violence. The 2014 festival theme is Camera in Action.
