The UIC Women's Leadership Symposium was founded to make leadership development more accessible to all women on campus and to address the unique issues faced by minority women.

Merri Dee, Director of Community Relations, celebrates 27 years at Chicago's very own WGN-TV Channel Nine. She serves as a liaison between WGN-TV and community organizations in the Chicago area, ensuring the station serves the needs of the diverse Chicago land area. In addition to her duties at WGN-TV, Dee is known for her extensive charitable work in the community and her commitment to social service especially relating to children and education. Dee is considered both unique and courageous because of her strength to survive gunshot wounds to the head when she and a television guest were kidnapped from the TV station. Lobbying state and city politicians, she assisted in the passage of the Illinois' first Victims Bill of Rights legislation that has served as the model for the US. |
