The purpose of this workshop is to take a look at what all the “food hype” is about, sort out what really matters and talk about what we CAN do to improve our health via our diets.

Learn about Supplemental Insurance, an affordable way for women to provide a financial safety net for themselves and their families before serious health issues occur. ADVANCED CONFIDENCE TRAINING FOR WOMEN USING SELF-DEFENSE TECHNIQUES

Participants in the class will be introduced to simple, effective, and realistic self-defense techniques based on Wing Tsun, a Chinese art of self-defense. Women will gain greater confidence and awareness in defending themselves.

 

SELF-RELIANCE: A JOURNEY OF SELF-DISCOVERY AND EMPOWERMENT

What is the perception that women have about their own ability to discover, develop, and maintain their freedom, personal power, resourcefulness, self-awareness, and self-reliance? This workshop will explore the issues of self-assurance, self-reliance, personal growth and empowerment, focusing on the culturally diverse group of women living in Chicago. There will be open dialog between the facilitator and the audience, as well as individual and group exercise work. Related hands-on and other materials, statistics articles, etc., will be provided at the workshop. All audiences are welcome to participate.  

 

PERSONAL LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT: BECOMING EFFECTIVE, ENGAGED AND EMPOWERED

This experiential workshop is a sampling of a 4-month personal leadership development program offered by the Maternal and Child Health Program in the UIC School of Public Health. It is designed to uncover, strengthen, and build upon an individual's natural strengths as a leader. The workshop is designed for individuals who want to have a more powerful, positive, and lasting impact in their work and life. Participants will create a personal plan for leadership development and be encouraged to take on a leadership project in their work environment.  

 

REJUVENATE - SPIRITUALLY, MENTALLY & EMOTIONALLY

REVITALIZE, REJUVENATE, AND RELAX: SURPASSING STRESS

This interactive workshop will include music, self-assessment, discussion, meditation and an action plan to alleviate stress. Participants will take a brief survey to assess their stress and current coping strategies. Gathering in a group discussion, participants will share their reflections, brainstorm ideas for managing the busy worlds of work and home, and receive support from each other. 

 

CATCHY TITLE OR SOLID PROSE? WHAT YOU CAN DO TO GARNER A FUNDING AGENCY'S ATTENTION!

The purpose of this 2-hour workshop is to provide women who are interested in developing a grant proposal with information and resources to assist them in these activities. Interaction and discussion among the group will be encouraged. Topics will include: Where to Look for Funding, “Putting your Best Foot Forward” in your Grant Proposal, Things to Consider During Proposal Development, and Strategies to Enhance your Proposal.

 

EXCEL BASICS

This workshop will offer basic hands-on instruction on the uses of the Microsoft Excel 2003 spreadsheet software. The participants will review a number of spreadsheet files to observe how this product is used. They will participate in hands-on exercises that will give them a start in using Excel. Prerequisite knowledge: Workshop participants must know how to use a mouse, have basic typing skills and know how to open and close computer files.
