At UIC we care about students' safety and security. Although crime does occur on campus, we have many safety features such as the blue boxes that connect students to help right away. UIC is a Jeanne Clery compliant campus, in other words, we collect information about crime on campus so that parents and students can receive accurate statistics about campus crime. The Office of Women's Affairs is one place you can come to anonymously and confidentially report crime on campus.
At the Office of Women's Affairs, we encourage students to take whatever precautions, or learn whatever safety skills they feel comfortable with. However, we also remind students that no matter what you do, you can NEVER reduce your risk to zero. No one asks to be a victim of a crime, and no matter what you did or did not do, only the perpetrator of the crime is responsible.
If you have been a victim of crime on or off campus, the Office of Women's Affairs and the Campus Advocacy Network are here for you. We are a safe place to anonymously and confidentially report a crime, as well as a place where someone can listen and let you know that we believe you, it's not your fault, and that you have options.
