Dorothy Brown is the first African-American to be elected the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Brown's career began as a Certified Public Accountant, working for one of the then "Big Eight" accounting firms. Brown received her MBA with honors from DePaul University, and went on to receive her Jurist Doctorate degree, with honors, from Chicago-Kent School of Law. For nearly a decade, she served as General Auditor for the CTA. The Illinois Democratic Women awarded Brown the 2002 Hillary Rodham Clinton Leadership Award for her outstanding professional and public service. |

Leticia Herrera is president and CEO of ECI, a minority woman-owned industrial construction, restoration, and maintenance firm founded in 1989. Herrera faced major challenges in the competitive, male-dominated environment within the janitorial-cleaning industry. Herrera took bold strides to re-invent her company into a niche-market player. Herrera, the 1997 recipient of UIC's Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame Award, is fiercely committed to issues affecting Latinas, small business owners, and women entrepreneurs. |

Adela Peña, Career Services - Now that you've landed that job offer, how do you negotiate salary? This interactive workshop will teach the four rules of negotiation, how to prepare for the negotiation process, and effective verbal strategies. Exercises will include role-plays and self-assessment.

Caryn Bills-Windt, Dispute Resolution Services and William Jones, University Library - This workshop will help you resolve conflicts through understanding your conflict resolution style, improving your communication skills, and enhancing your ability to generate solution-focused options.

Learn how to encourage and empower students to develop characteristics of good judgment, dependability, initiative, and responsibility.
SALARY EQUITY FOR FACULTY WOMEN: PART I
Deborah Gorman-Smith, Psychiatry; Pat Gill, Access and Equity; and William Bridges, Sociology - This workshop presents the results of a salary equity study and will focus on the intangible factors that affect salary and compensation equity for faculty women. The power of counteroffers and associated equity issues will also be discussed.
REDUCING YOUR POTENTIAL FOR BURNOUT
Barbara Distler, Counseling Center - Learn about the causes and forms of burnout along with risk factors. Discuss why women are at risk and distinguish burnout from stress. Participants will identify their own signals for burnout and learn practical steps for reducing or preventing burnout.
GETTING THE GOLD OUT OF THE GOLDEN YEARS
Stacie Geller, Center for Excellence in Women's Health; Karla Nacion, College of Nursing; and Mytris Sullivan, Community Health Sciences - Are you confused by all the conflicting research about how to age gracefully? This workshop will cover the facts and myths of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), strategies for enhancing longevity, and how to avoid the health traps such as diabetes.

Mary Sinclair, AHS School of Kinesiology - With increasing focus on technology, do we risk losing our balance? This hands-on workshop will explore the challenges to well being and how to restore it. Healing Touch, a form of bio-energy therapy, will be introduced as a strategy to improve personal health.

Katye Miller and Constance Dugan, Wellness Center - This fast-paced workshop will allow participants to recall the importance of play in our daily lives. Participants will share the unique ways they have incorporated play into their own lives and leave with a plan to develop the essential life skill of play.

Deborah Gorman-Smith, Psychiatry; Pat Gill, Access and Equity; Susan Mangels and Celina Sima, College of Education - This workshop will present new information on salary equity for women faculty and will solicit feedback from participants on intangible factors that bear on this issue. Salary-related factors that emerged from an exit interview survey will also be covered.

Alison Miller, Applied Psychological Services - Learn about the three pathways to living a balanced, stress-resilient life. Participants will learn what constitutes a self-nurturing activity, common beliefs that may sabotage their efforts to take care of themselves, and how to make a plan to engage in self-care on a regular basis.
WHO LET THE DOGS OUT: SISTERHOOD BETRAYED
Flecia Thomas, African-American Academic Network - Why is there so much "drama" when women work with women? This workshop will begin to examine some of the issues that make it problematic for some women to work with each other. We will explore strategies on how to interact with people you find difficult to work with.

Rose Green Thomas, Urban Health Program - This interactive workshop will explore how self-identity leads you to where you are in life experiences and steers you where you want to go. Exercises will target improving self-worth, renewing the spirit, and reviewing lessons learned on the elements of success.
NETWORLDING
Ann Trampas, Stratalign, LLC - Networlding is a value-based system and methodology for leveraging lifelong, meaningful exchange relationships in the furtherance of business objectives. This workshop will include an overview of the steps in the process of Networlding and a comparison of Networlding vs. networking.
POSITION ELIMINATION AND ME
Stefan D.P. Howard and Sharon Coleman, Staff Advisory Council - This workshop will cover the nuts and bolts of what's involved when your civil service position is being eliminated. Who to contact, when to vie for promotions, and your rights and responsibilities as a civil service employee will also be discussed.

SELF DEFENSE TECHNIQUES
Nancy Trock, Degerberg Academy of Martial Arts in Chicago - The goal of this workshop is to inform, empower, and arm women with some practical and logical self-preservation skills. Participants will learn and practice some simple and effective release techniques from chokes and holds. This workshop involves light physical contact.
SEXUALITY IN THE WORKPLACE
Lora Branch, Office of LGBT Health, Chicago Department of Public Health - Some might say that the issue of sexual orientation has become the last civil rights frontier. In this workshop, participants will be led through a discussion and several exercises designed to promote learning about lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender issues in the workplace.
POLITICAL ACTION FOR TODAY'S WOMAN
Karen Boehning and Brooke Sylvester, National Women's Political Caucus of Greater Chicago - This workshop will focus on the importance of realizing your power as a change agent. Strategies for how to organize and impact your community and beyond will be covered.
A WOMAN'S MONEY, A WOMAN'S FUTURE
Kendra A. Smith, TIAA-CREF - This workshop targets women's issues through four "life-stages" and highlights why planning is critical. Topics will include the importance of participating in an employer plan, taking advantage of tax-deferred investing, and choosing appropriate investment products.
