Deirdre McCloskey
is a UIC Distinguished Professor of Economics, History, and English, adjunct
in Philosophy and Classics, and Tinbergen Professor of Philosophy, Economics,
and Art and Cultural Studies at Erasmusuniversiteit Rotterdam. Her philosophical
interests are philosophy and sociology of science, virtue ethics, theology,
the rhetoric of philosophy, and the history of social science, especially
economics. Her philosophical works, aside from her books in economics
and history, include Knowledge and Persuasion in Economics (1994)
and The Rhetoric of Economics (1985, reprint 1999). She is working
on Bourgeois Virtue, a philosophical and historical study of the
ideology of the middling sort.
