Present
The 2001 Philosophy of Physics Workshop
in Honor of Arthur Fine
We hope that you will be able to join us thanking Arthur Fine
for his huge contribution to philosophy of science in Chicago (and beyond, of
course), and to wish him all the very best in his new location. To celebrate
what Arthur has contributed to the field, this meeting is premised on one of
the most crucial lessons that Arthur has helped teach philosophy of science:
that the practice and content of science itself raises the most interesting
philosophical issues. He has argued for this theme theoretically - in his
work on the 'Natural Ontological Attitude' - and practically - in his
contributions to the philosophy of physics. The conference therefore will
focus on current work in this vein: Arthur himself will deliver a keynote
address on the role and achievements of philosophy of physics; invited
speakers will discuss their recent work on a variety of topics of current
activity. What better way to thank Arthur than a practical demonstration of
the vitality of the field he has nourished so well?
