How to file a compliant

 

To file a complaint against any members of the University of Illinois at Chicago Police Department you may come to the police department located at 943 West Maxwell Chicago, Il. 60608 or simply call (312) 996-2830 and ask to speak with the Watch Commander on duty. Complaints will be handled in accordance with the Uniform Police Officers Disciplinary Act *.

(a) Unfounded: The complaint was not based on facts as shown by the investigation,
or the reported incident did not occur.
(b) Exonerated: The incident occurred, but the action taken by the officer(s) was
deemed lawful, reasonable and proper.
(c) Not Sustained: The allegation is supported by insufficient evidence which could
not be used to prove or disprove the allegation.
(d) Sustained: The allegation was supported by sufficient evidence to justify disciplinary
action.

*In accordance with 50 ILCS 725, Uniform Peace Officers Disciplinary Act the police supervisor on duty will have the complainant complete a "SWORN AAFIDAVIT FOR COMPLAINT REGISTER INVESTIGATION". This Sworn Affidavit has a large box titled"Summary of Allegation" where the complainant should write their complaint. Additional paper can be provided if needed. The signed/dated Sworn Affidavit/complaint will be forwarded to the Internal Auditing Unit.

Any person making a false statement, material to the issue or point in question, which does not believe to be true in any pleading, affidavit or other document certified by such person in accordance with ILCS Section 5/1-104 shall be guilty of PERJURY which is a Class 3 felony.
