Professor B.C. Koh Retires After 37 Years at UIC

Professor B.C. Koh retired on July 1, 2002. "BC" recently has taught classes in our department on international organization, international law, and Far Eastern politics on a yearly basis. He has frequently taught introductory comparative politics and public administration. Professor Koh received his Ph.D. from Cornell University in 1963, then taught at Louisiana State University in 1963-1965, and then was brought to UIC by Doris Graber. BC has thus taught in the Political Science Department for the last 37 years. Professor Koh is the author of many books and journal articles. Among his books are: "Korea: Dynamics of Diplomacy and Unification," edited and coauthor, appearing from the Keck Center of the Claremont-McKenna College in 2001; "Japan's Administrative Elite," from the University of California Press in 1991; "The Foreign Policy Systems of North and South Korea," from the University of California Press in 1984. Koh is one of only a few academic experts on North Korea in the USA today. BC will continue to work full-time, as he is returning to Korea for perhaps two years to be the director of the Institute for Far East Studies of the University of Masan. This Institute is in Seoul and has 40 employees.
