Team Selection 2006-07

The UIC Mock Trial Team tryouts will consist of the following elements:

1) Attendance at the information session:  The sign up sheets for the interviews and the tryouts will be available only at the sessions.

2) Application forms must be submitted by September 17th at the latest to uicmocktrial@gmail.com .  All applications must be sent to this email address to be considered.  Click here for application.

3) An informal interview session with the mock trial captains prior to your prepared tryout. They will be approximately 20 minutes per person.

4) You MAY be required to give a witness portrayal during the interview. Know the affidavit of the witness (Frankie Gustavo) well and be ready for a direct examination. A direct examination is when a witness is asked open ended-questions.  The captains will ask you questions, and we suggest you get as creative as possible but it MUST follow the affidavit.  You can't make anything up that is completely out of the blue.  Here is a good example: 

Q:  "What were you doing that night?"

A:  It was regular night.  I was just busy tending to my customers and stuff... everything was going good.

(We'll know if you sue that exact sentence, so don't use it.)

Bad answer:
 
A) I was chilling. This girl/guy  came over and he/she was hot. Then I got tanked and I started hallucinating.
 
You may act out the character whichever way you want (different accent, different personalities, etc).

5) A presentation of the opening statement during the tryouts on Sept. 26th. You may pick either the Prosecution or Defense opening statement. This should NOT exceed more than 5 minutes.
