One of the most important goals of the university is to provide a forum for the rational discourse on and exploration of a broad range of topics, including gender and sexual identity, and diversity. Diversity is a key element in attracting students, and in recruiting the best candidates for staff and faculty positions, to Chicago and UIC. It is also important to maintain an environment of tolerance and respect at UIC, and ensure the safety of our campus community. The Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer People and Allies, CCSLGBTQPA, works with the Chancellor and Provost to address issues and concerns of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer community at UIC.

UIC was rated 5 Stars by the Campus Pride Climate Index and listed in the Top 25 LGBT friendly schools in the nation!
