Q. How much will it cost?
A. Studies show the cost to be minimal. Other universities have had between 12 and 30 people who apply for such benefits for increased costs of less than one-half of one percent.
Q. Why not include non-gay/lesbian domestic partners?
A. Heterosexuals can legally marry. Discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is prohibited by University policy.
Q. Benefits are set by the State, what can the University do?
A. The Board of Trustees can purchase a group plan for domestic partners to create equity.
Q. How would the University determine who is eligible?
A. Administrative procedures are in place at universities across the country that now provide same-sex domestic partnership benefits.
Q. What does the Faculty Affairs Committee think?
A. The resolution has already been approved in principle by the Faculty Affairs Committee.
