Meet and greet the director of the AACC, Dr. Lori Barcliff Baptista, and 
tour the newly renovated space. You're invited to participate in spoken
word, music, visual, and performance art that embodies the Center's
engagement with African-American and Diasporic identities, traditions, and
creative practices. Drumming and re-dedication ceremony begins at 1:15 p.m.
Brief remarks will follow. Light refreshments will be served.

Bayard Rustin at 100: Rediscovering a Forgotten Hero

Known as the “Invisible Man” of the civil rights movement, Bayard Rustin was a mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and organized the iconic 1963 March on Washington D.C. But despite his many achievements, Rustin was expunged
from history—largely for being openly gay. Chicago Urban League President Andrea Zopp moderates a discussion on Rustin's enduring legacy with filmmaker Bennett Singer, co-director of the acclaimed documentary Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin, and Rustin's life partner Walter Naegle. Come and get tested for free in a safe space once a month. Testing is confidential and it takes 20 minutes. First come, first served. Check in at the Rainbow Resource, room 181 BSB, or outreach table in the BSB halllway; last intake is at 3:30 p.m. This is a collaboration with Vida/SIDA.

Personal Statements is a monthly workshop exploring the territory of bold creative expression and healthy personal boundaries. The workshops are facilitated from an affirming LGBTQQIA perspective. All undergraduate and

Safe Zone 101 is a training to increase awareness and comfort with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people and issues; empower participants to become a LGBTQ ally; and address the unique experiences and challenges that are specific to LGBTQ people. All UIC students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend this University-sanctioned training. Release time is generally granted according to the attendance at University Events policy. Sexy Spirit: Discussions on Sexuality & Spirituality

Sexy Spirit is a monthly discussion exploring how sexuality and spirituality inform, influence, and enhance each other (from an affirming religious/spiritual LGBTQQIA perspective). We welcome a variety of religious and spiritual perspectives and provide a safe place to explore experience and belief. We also hope to challenge each other to think about and articulate why we believe what we believe, thus leading to more healthy spiritual and sexual relationships.
