* 4th Northeast Regional GLBT Student Leadership Conference

The University of Southern Maine's Alliance for Sexual Diversity is hosting this year's conference. One of their keynote speakers is Donna Red Wing. Their theme is "Will You Stand? Band of Survivors" Conference. They are also offering 12 workshops. The registration fee was $20 before January 31, 1998. After this date, the fee was $30.

7th Annual Southeast LGB College Conference

The Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Student Union hosted this conference. Urvashi Vaid, Mandy Carter, Tim Rielly (founder of PlanetOut), and HRC's Legislative Director Winnie Stachelberg served as their speakers. Their theme was ""An Eye on The Future." They also offered 70 workshops. Their registration fee was $35 before February 5th and $45 on-site (at the conference). They attracted around 200 students from about 50 schools in the Southeast.

9th University of California LGBT Association Annual Conference

The conference was hosted by The University of California, Santa Cruz and the University of California Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Association. Elizabeth Birch, Executive Director of the Human Rights Campaign, was their keynote speaker. The conference also featured Loren Cameron, Kerry Lobel (of NGLTF), and Tomás Almaguer, Professor American Culture and Sociology at the University of Michigan. Their entertainers included Annie Sprinkle and Marga Gomez. They offered 52 workshops.

This very successful conference registered 492 out of a possible 500 spaces. The states/provices/countries represented were California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Michigan, Wisconsin, Maryland, Massachusetts, Georgia, District of Columbia, British Columbia and Germany. The registration cost for students was $20 - $30 (according to financial ability) with others paying $30 - $50 (according to financial ability).
