Queer Hemispheres: Lawrence v Texas
12:00-1:30 p.m.
Institute for the Humanities
Basement/Lower Level Stevenson Hall
How will the recent United States Supreme Court sodomy decision on Lawrence v Texas ripple across the country? Will it have international impact or was this decision a reflection of other international communities' interpretations of same-sex relations? During the 2003-2004 academic school year, we will be offering a luncheon series entitled "Queer Hemispheres" which will focus on aspects of sex/sexuality/gender from an international perspective.
This luncheon has been organized by Timothy Murphy, Ph.D. and is co-sponsored by the the Office of GLBT Concerns, the Gender and Women's Studies Program, the Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Issues, and the Center for Research on Women and Gender.
A panel of individuals including Jenny Brier, John D'Emilio, Judith Gardiner, Sharon Holland, Jaimie Hovey, and Timothy F. Murphy will discuss multiple perspectives and viewpoints on issues involving "sodomy" and the various "spheres" that Lawrence v Texas could impact.
If you are interested in attending the luncheon, vegetarian and meat lunches will be provided ONLY with an RSVP no later than 12 p.m. on Monday, October 27 to pkfinn@uic.edu or by calling (312) 413-9862.
