Gay Male Professors of Color's Experiences of
Racist and Homophobic Bullying in Academia
I am currently conducting my doctoral dissertation research on the experiences of gay male faculty of color in higher education in terms of the intersection of racism and homophobic bullying. There is a lack of empirical understanding on adult bullying in higher education. Furthermore, there is a scarcity of knowledge on the experiences of gay professors of color, how they deal with the issues of race and sexual orientation in their academic careers, and how they combat adult bullying and survive as victims of adult bullying.
With that in mind, I would really appreciate your assistance in identifying potential study participants. I am currently looking for gay male professors of color who would be willing to talk about their experiences of being bullied in higher education. In other words, I am specifically looking for Non-White Gay Male Professors who identify themselves as:
-
Gay American Native Male Professors
-
Gay Asian Male Professors
-
Gay Black Male Professors
-
Gay Latino Professors
-
Gay Pacific Islander Male Professors
-
Gay Mixed-Race Male Professors
and who are victims of bullying in higher education. If you would like more information about this study, please email me at mmisawa@uga.edu and I will send you a recruitment flyer with additional details.

Lesbian and Bisexual Participants Between 18-28 years
Needed For 'Coming Out' Study
Requirements for participation :
- must be a U.S. resident
- must be 18-28 years old
- must have access to a computer and internet
- must be a lesbian or bisexual woman
- must have come out to parents sometime in the past
If you are eligible and decide to participate, a series of questionnaires will be given to you through a website on the internet. You must take the questionnaires in one sitting, but will be given as much time as needed. However, it should take you between 30 minutes and 1 hour to complete. The questions asked in these questionnaires are fairly personal and may bring up uncomfortable memories. Also, the content may place you at social risk if someone uncomfortable with your identity or not aware of your identity were to see you filling it out. Therefore, filling out the questionnaire in a place that you feel comfortable and you know is private will be up to you. Nevertheless, your participation may help to better understand the needs of the lesbian and bisexual communities. I cannot and do not guarantee or promise that you will receive any benefits from this study.

Dear LGBTIQQ Youth Activist, I am a PhD student in the Stanford University School of Education. I have been working on a survey about LGBTIQQ Youth Online since the spring, and the survey is now ready to collect data from 500 LGBTIQQ youth across the United States. Note that it has received IRB approval here at Stanford and is perfectly anonymous (we are not collecting IP addresses, nor identifiers about the youth who fill it). The secure link is: SURVEY. Please share it with LGBTIQQ youth aged 13-21, or with community allies who might be able to forward the link to the youth they service. This survey will run through November 2008.
