Thanks for your interest in GRAPEVINE (Gay Rights Advocates Providing Education Via Illinois NEtworking).
The purpose of this list and corresponding web site (http://www.siue.edu/~jandris/grapevine.html) is to promote equitable treatment of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered/transsexual individuals at Illinois educational institutions. The focus of grapevine is on education. The website provides positions on issues, national, regional and Illinois resources, and Illinois news. The specific function of this listserv is to provide an easy way for Illinois educators to communicate with each other while they are engaged in a common effort to achieve full gay rights in Illinois educational institutions. While it is the intention of the list owner to encourage free and open discussion of all issues relating to promoting gay rights at Illinois educational institutions, a few suggestions about the efficient use of listserv technology are in order.
First, remember that the listserv works best if we all conduct a common discussion. Therefore, as much as possible, comments directed to the listserv should be answered through the listserv. In this way, everyone who has subscribed to grapevine will be able to profit from group wisdom and consensus (or lack of it).
Second, here are some suggested topics for discussion on this list:

University-based initiatives for equitable treatment of gays
Information regarding the Illinois gay community
