Angela Bowen and Tom Neal
Angela Bowen is a Black lesbian feminist writer and activist. She
has served on the board of the National Coalition for Black Lesbians and
Gays, serving as its co-chair. She edited two editions of BLACK/OUT, the
publication of the NCBLG. In 1989, she received the Fannie Lou Hamer
award for working to combat racism and celebrate women of color. In 1992,
she received the NWSA/NAIAD award for her Ph.D. dissertation proposal in
Women's Studies on Black lesbians.
Tom Neal is a gay student activist from Texas. He is the founder
and has served on the board of directors of the Coalition for Lesbian and
Gay Student Groups (CLGSG) based in Dallas. Tom has organized many regional
queer student activist conferences. Tom is particularly outspoken on the
issue of coastalism in the lesbian gay and bisexual movement, that is the
focus on New York or San Francisco, neglecting all the queer activists
working in the midwest or the south.
