Group Fitness Session

Group Fitness Session classes are offered at both the Student Recreation Facility and the Sport & Fitness Center Classes vary per semester. Please check the current schedule for session dates and prices.

Important Announcements

Participation

Group Fitness session classes are voluntary and open primarily to the UIC community, including students, faculty, staff, and members of the recreational facilities. General public are allowed to participate but will have to pay the non-member price.

If you have a disability and need accommodations in order to participate in a program, please call (312) 413-5154 at least one week prior to the event.

* People under the age of 18 cannot participate in ANY Group Fitness Session programs

Registration

Register online! Computer Kiosk available at the Student Recreation Facility at 737 S. Halsted and the Sport & Fitness Center at 828 S. Wolcott. Phone registrations are not accepted.

Classes not meeting the minimum requirement of participants will be cancelled at that time. Refunds will be issued ONLY for classes cancelled due to low registration or a doctor documented illness or condition. Please bring your receipt to the first session as proof of payment. Late registration will not be accepted.

Class Descriptions

ASHTANGA FULL PRIMARY SERIES
The Primary Series of Ashtanga was designed to build strength, flexibility and detoxify the body so that it is ready and open to the more subtle aspects of the practice of Yoga. A vigorous class where the entire first sequence of Ashtanga Yoga is practiced. It is challenging and fun. It is not recommended for someone who has never done Yoga before.

AQUA PILATES

Develop your core strength and flexibility with the zero-impact benefits of water. This class utilizes both shallow rebound work and deep water work to create a challenging exercise program based in the Pilates Method. Excellent for participants with joint and back problems, beginners and athletes alike, the water allows all fitness levels to workout in the same class! Open to all levels.

AQUA TOTAL FIT
Water Aerobics is a low impact, moderate intensity class focusing on toning and cardiovascular conditioning, a great workout with less stress on the joints. Class includes toning exercises for the entire body and the use of water resistant equipment. The class can be modified for all levels of fitness. Anyone looking for a fun and new workout will benefit from this program. Participants do NOT need to know how to swim. A lifeguard will be on duty at all times.

HATHA YOGA
This method of Yoga instruction emphasizes health and well-being through breathing exercises and deep concentration while holding traditional Yoga poses. Open to all levels.

NIA
Nia blends dance, martial arts, and healing arts (like yoga) to create a dynaamic fitness and lifestyle practice through simple, easy-to-follow moves set to fabulous music from all over the world! Nia is a barefoot, non-impact workout for people of all levels of fitness, all ages and all sizes. Come dance, kick, shimmy, stretch, and laugh with us!

PILATES REFORMER
Using a specialized Reformer machine, participants will develop muscular control, grace, strength and flexibility with spring resistance. Beginner and Intermediate group classes are available.

REFORMER & MAT COMBO
Experience all the best of Pilates! This class will use BOTH Mat and Reformer techniques to develop participants muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Open to all levels.

TURBO KICK®
Turbo Kick® mixes kickboxing and simple dance moves with music that makes you want to move it! Since its creation in 1997, Turbo Kick® has developed a huge following with each exercise session burning up to 1,000 calories per hour. You'll love having fun and it won't even seem like your working out.

VINYASA YOGA
Focus on the eight traditional limbs of yoga through the coordination of breathing and movement. It is recommended that you have some previous yoga experience before participating in this class. Intermediate.

ZUMBA
®
The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Our goal is simple: We want you to want to work out, to love working out, to get hooked. Zumba® Fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!
