When arriving on campus, you will be greeted by the Student Orientation Leaders. These talented UIC students will lead you through the program and serve as an invaluable resource for they have already been through orientation and the transition to college. They are eager to answer questions or to offer advice. Parents/guests and students will follow separate programs specifically tailored to their needs.

Through various activities, including speakers, panel presentations, and tours, parents/guests and students will become better acquainted with the UIC community. A final schedule of activities and information sessions will be given upon arrival. You can look forward to your program knowing that it will give you a taste of campus life and all that this great university has to offer. Because of the different groups participating in orientation, please pay special attention to the specific instructions for your group.
Freshman students are required to attend a two-day overnight orientation session. When arriving on campus for your scheduled program, please be aware that check-in begins at 7:45 am. Arrive promptly at the Behavioral Sciences Building (BSB) located at 1007 West Harrison Street.
Special Note: When making travel arrangements, all sessions are mandatory. Please contact the UIC Orientation Program prior to making your travel arrangements to campus. We will provide on-campus overnight accommodations for each student.
Students that need to come a day before or stay a day after orientation may arrange for lodging on campus in the university’s residence halls. A $27/night fee for additional lodging will be billed to your student account after orientation. These arrangements must be made and confirmed with the Orientation Program a minimum of seven days prior to your arrival.
When staying on campus for orientation, students participating in the program are not allowed to leave campus for any reason. Leaving campus will result in immediate dismissal from the program.
Freshman students must return the keys and linens at orientation check-out or their student account will be charged a minimum replacement fee of $150.
To ensure that everyone has a safe and successful orientation experience, we expect all students to abide by federal, state, and local law, as well as university policies.
Please be aware that as a participant in the UIC Orientation Program, you are subject to UIC policies regarding alcohol use and illegal drugs, which can be found on the university’s website at: uic.edu/homeindex/safety/alcohol_drugs.shtml. If you are found in violation of these rules at orientation, your admission to UIC may be revoked, and you will be asked to leave the program. In short, alcohol and illegal drugs are not allowed at orientation.
Your program will conclude by 4:00 pm on the second day of the two-day overnight program. You will retrieve your luggage from storage in Commons West and are free to leave from there. You may instruct individuals to pick you up at 901 West Harrison Street at the conclusion of the program. Leaving prior to 4:00 pm will not be possible.
