As a teacher, I concentrate mostly on literature published since
the French Revolution, and my courses fortunately give me
occasions to teach a wide variety of works. Among the more
interesting avenues that my classes have
opened for me in recent years are Artaud's poetry, Leiris's
autobiographical enterprise, Fromentin's travel accounts, and
Delphine de Girardin's theater.
My research revolves mainly around French literature of the
nineteenth century. Much of my writing deals with the verse
poetry of Baudelaire, Mallarmé, and Rimbaud, but I am equally
interested in less canonical genres (such as the prose poem
and the fragment) and lesser-known writers (such as Jules Janin
and Leo Lespes). In addition, I am drawn toward short
fiction, particularly fantastic tales and stories for children.
