Teacher Education Majors


Note: We do not offer a Master's in Spanish or French Teaching. If you already have a Bachelor's degree, see "Master's students."

Transfer students who have already completed some of these courses in their undergraduate studies: your transcript will be evaluated to determine how much credit you will receive and which courses you may still need to complete at UIC. You may send a copy of your transcript, plus printouts of their official course catalog descriptions, to Ms. Inma Taboada at the address above.

Required Spanish courses:
200 Conversation
This course is not open to Spanish-speaking students, who must substitute a Spanish course at the 200, 300 or 400 level, or LALS 273, 274, 278, 295, 330, 493, 495.
201 Composition
210 Introduction to reading Hispanic texts
211 Introduction to analysis of Hispanic texts
230 Civilization and Culture of Spain
231 Civilization and Culture of Latin America
300 Introduction to Hispanic linguistics
303 Advanced composition
305 Advanced grammar
ONE additional course from 310, 311, or 314, 315, 375.
390 Senior seminar
448 Methodology: Communicative Language Teaching
449 Methodology: Second Language Reading and Writing
451 & 452: Student teaching

M.Ed. students must also take two (2) 400-level Spanish courses, one in linguistics/language and one in literature.
