Chancellor's Student Service Award (CSSA)
Tier 1
The Chancellor’s Student Service Award (CSSA) honors students who have made an outstanding contribution to the University through campus and community service. Student nominees must contribute a significant amount of time, effort and creativity to one or more campus and/or community service project(s). Undergraduate, graduate, and professional students must be enrolled during the academic year in which the award is received, be in good academic standing, must have volunteered in a campus and/or community service organization, and must have made a significant contribution to this organization. Nominators should list specifics about the student’s contribution to the campus and/or community and organizational office held. Approximately 300 UIC students receive this award each year.
Who should be nominated for this award?
Tier 1

Who should be nominated for this award?
- Student leaders who hold executive board positions, or
- Student members who have gone above and beyond in service to a student organization, or
- Students who have made significant unpaid contributions to a university department, or
- Students who have provided significant service to community organizations
Eugertha Bates Memorial Award
Tier 2
The Eugertha Bates Memorial Award is given in recognition of the student whose volunteer activities in a campus and/or community setting demonstrates an outstanding level of caring, dedication, and selfless commitment to others. Nominees for the Eugertha Bates Memorial Award must have made an exceptional contribution to the humanitarian needs of others. There are two nomination categories for this award: Graduate Student and Undergraduate Student. One winner in each category will be chosen from the nominations received. Complete nominations for the Eugertha Bates Memorial Award must include a letter that describes the significance of the services performed and the nominee’s impact on the UIC community/constituency for whom the service was performed.
Who should be nominated for this award?
Students who have made a significant contribution to the humanitarian needs of others. (The service must be prolonged or on-going service)
Presidential Volunteer Service Award
Tier 3
The Presidential Volunteer Service Award is given to student(s) whose volunteer
activity substantially addresses a need in the community. The student must
be involved in the creation of a new project or service to address the
described need. The awardee(s) should have the highest level of
dedication and selfless commitment to their volunteer service and have
accumulated a minimum of 100 hours of service in all involvements in the past year. This award is sponsored by the Corporation of National and Community Service, a federal
agency.
Who should be nominated for this award?
Students who have helped in the creation of new service projects and have accumulated a minimum of 100 hours of service in all involvements within the past year.
