The Community Service/ Volunteerism programs serve to promote community engagement through service, while helping students develop a sense of responsibility and accomplishment. The Community Service/ Volunteerism programs provide educational and interactive community service experiences that help alleviate identified community needs while challenging and supporting students’ growth and learning.

We view community service activities along a continuum based upon the amount of personal investment related to the service performed and the learning that takes place as a result of the service.

Community service takes many forms:

• Philanthropy
• Direct Community Service
• Co-Curricular Service Learning
• Academic Service Learning

Join us for a panel discussion of what service means in today’s society featuring the leaders of some of the most successful domestic and international service organizations in the United States.

This event is free and open to the public.

Representatives from Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, City Year Chicago, World Bicycle Relief, and the Chicago community will discuss the role of service in today’s world and its impact on society. Opportunities for those seeking to serve their local communities or travel overseas will be highlighted and information made available. There will be an open question and answer session following the panel.
