Amanda E. Lewis

Amanda E. Lewis (PhD, University of Michigan 2000) is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Sociology and African American Studies. Her primary areas of research and teaching include race and ethnic relations, sociology of education (particularly urban schools), gender, and qualitative and ethnographic research methods. She has recently completed an in-depth ethnographic study of the reproduction of racial meaning and racial inequality in schools; the manuscript based on this work, Race in the Schoolyard: Negotiating the color-line in classrooms and communities, was published in 2003 by Rutgers University Press.
