First Step

First Step Advising appointments are mandatory for all study abroad applicants as a starting point for the application process. During the 45 minute First Step, a study abroad advisor will review how to select the best program for your needs, outline the application process, and distribute the UIC Study Abroad application. For study abroad eligibility requirements click here.

To sign up for a session, look at the schedule below, choose a date, note both the day and time of your preferred attendance. To reserve your seat either:

Fall 2009 Schedule

November 10th - December 4th
Tuesdays at 2 pm
Wednesdays at 2 pm

First Step sessions are held in the SAO Resource Room 502 University Hall

The application cycle for Spring 2010 programs is now closed.

Deadline for Summer 2010 programs and Fall 2010 programs TBD

(expect Priority Deadline in February and Final Deadline in March)

Eligibility Requirements to Study Abroad

You are eligible to submit an application to study abroad from UIC if you meet ALL the following criteria:

  • You are currently enrolled at UIC
  • You have completed a minimum of 12 hours at UIC
  • You have both a cumulative and UIC minimum GPA of 2.5/4.0
  • You are in good academic standing

You are eligible to apply to a specific study abroad program if you meet the criteria above and:

  • You have completed the SAO application form
  • You have met with your SAO Advisor have his/her support to submit a program specific application
  • You meet all the minimum requirements of your planned study abroad program which could include course pre-requisites, GPA, language levels, and class standing

You are eligible to participate in a study abroad program if you meet all the criteria above and:

  • You have no holds on your UIC student account
  • You have no outstanding discipline record
  • You have paid all fees to the program sponsor in full
  • You have attended the UIC Study Abroad Office Pre-Departure Orientation
