Diversity Scholarships

Gilman International Scholarship	Up to $8,000
This scholarship aims to diversify and expand participation in international study by awarding grants to undergraduates who have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad.
Eligibility Pell grant recipient US citizen
Application Deadline: March 5 for summer and fall programs; October 2 for spring programs

CAPA/UMN Access Scholarships	Up to $1,500 for summer; Up to $3,000 for semester
CAPA International Education is pleased to offer Access Scholarships to students who identify with one or more groups whose representation within the study abroad community has been unequal to its representation within the United States population. Underrepresentation in study abroad includes: racial, ethnic, students with disabilities, gender orientation, sexual orientation, age, field of study, veterans, and 1st generation college students.
Eligibility Demonstrated high financial need with financial aid package at least 50% of the program fee Minimum 2.8 GPA
Application Deadline: October 8 for spring programs; February 1 for summer programs; May 15 for fall programs

IES Abroad Diversity Scholarships	Up to $5,000
IES's Diversity Scholarships are one way to encourage and support students from a range of institutions and under-represented populations. Under-represented students include students from under-represented racial and ethnic groups, first generation to college students, students from low income families and students with a history of overcoming adversity
Eligibility Underrepresented identity Minimum 3.3 GPA
Application Deadline: May 1 for fall programs; November 1 for spring programs

SIT Diversity Scholarships	Up to $5,000
SIT Study Abroad uses scholarship funds to ensure that a diverse group of students can participate from all regions in the US--and abroad--and from a variety of colleges and universities. Targeted to students who will enhance the racial, national, and ethnic diversity of the student body. See: The Compton Fund, The Diversity Fund, Engineering Scholarship, The Lewy Family Global Health Scholars Fund and Pell Grant Matching.

CIEE Robert Bailey Scholarships	Up to $1,500
The Robert B. Bailey Scholarship is intended to promote the participation in CIEE programs of individuals or members of groups that have traditionally been underrepresented in study abroad, especially ethnic minority students
Eligibility Acceptance to a CIEE Program Underrepresented Identity
Application Deadline: April 1 for summer & fall, November 1 for spring programs

UIC-SIT Diversity Fund	Up to $2,000 for summer; Up to $4,000 for semester
Through generous support from World Learning and SIT Study Abroad, the UIC-SIT Fund is established to support of traditionally under-represented students studying abroad.
Eligibility Participation on an affiliated SIT program Demonstrated financial need Self-identify as an under-represented student
Application Deadline: March 22, 2013 for summer and fall programs

UIC-CIEE Diversity Scholarship	$2,500 for semester, $500 for summer
Through generous support from the Council on International Educational Exchange this fund was established to support traditionally under-represented students studying abroad.

UIC-CIEE GAIN Summer Award	$1000 for summer
Through generous support from the Council on International Educational Exchange this fund was established to support traditionally under-represented students studying abroad.Preference will be given to applicants who are able to demonstrate financial need and/or those who can best demonstrate how they have overcome barriers in order to participate in study abroad.

CIEE GAIN Scholarship	$1,000 - $5,000
The GAIN Scholarship was developed to aide in diversifying study abroad by providing opportunities for students who are economically challenged, from diverse backgrounds, students with documented disabilities, or underrepresented fields of study.

CIEE GAIN Reward	$1,000 - $5,000
The GAIN Rewards were developed to help provide grants to further assist students who are selected as awardees by the highly respected Benjamin A. Gilman and David L. Boren Scholarship programs.
Eligibility Participation on a CIEE program The applicant must have been selected to receive the Boren Scholarship for International Study or the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, and have greater than $1000 in outstanding, documented financial need.
Application Deadline: April 1 for summer and fall programs; November 1 for spring programs

CIEE Michael Stohl Scholarship	$2,500 for semester, $500 for summer
The Michael Stohl Scholarship award was established in honor of Dr. Michael Stohl. These awards are intended to promote the participation in CIEE programs of students who are from nontraditional backgrounds, economically challenged, or first generation college students, or who are planning to conduct international research as part of the study abroad program.
Eligibility Participation on a CIEE program Self-identify as a 1st generation college student, demonstrate financial need, be a non-traditionally aged student, have a non-traditional background, and/or be planning to conduct research as part of the study abroad program. Preference is given to students from public higher education institutions.

CIEE Kathleen McDermott Scholarship	$1,000 - $2,500
The scholarship is in honor of Kathleen McDermott who served on the Executive Committee of the CIEE Academic Consortium Board. Dr. McDermott was an anthropologist, trained nurse, and consummate administrator who cared deeply for students and the experiences that study abroad provided for their intellectual and emotional development.
Eligibility Participation on a CIEE program Self-identify as an under-represented student Student must be either a Public Health or Nursing major, and/or participating in a CIEE Community Public Health study abroad program.
