Need-Based Scholarships

Gilman International Scholarship	Up to $8,000
This scholarship aims to diversify and expand participation in international study by awarding grants to undergraduates who have been traditionally underrepresented in education abroad.
Eligibility Pell grant recipient US citizen
Application Deadline: March 5 for summer and fall programs; October 2 for spring programs

SIT Study Abroad Scholarships	Up to $5,000
SIT Study Abroad uses scholarship funds to ensure that a diverse group of students can participate from all regions in the US--and abroad--and from a variety of colleges and universities. See: SIT Fund and Pell Grant Matching

School for Field Studies Scholarships	Up to $5,000
The School for Field Studies (SFS) awards over $280,000 in need-based scholarships each year with roughly one third of SFS students receiving some type of aid. SFS greatly appreciates the support of our alumni and other generous donors who make this possible through their contributions to the SFS general scholarship fund and individually named scholarships.

CAPA Need-Based Scholarships	Up to $5,000
CAPA offers several scholarships for students who demonstrate high financial need. Scholarships are reserved for students whose financial aid package is at least 50% of the program fee. See also: Affiliate Scholarships.
Eligibility Demonstrated high financial need with financial aid package at least 50% of the program fee Minimum 2.8 GPA
Application Deadline: October 8 for spring programs; February 1 for summer programs; May 15 for fall programs

CIEE ISP Scholarships	Awards range from $1,000 for a summer to $2,000 for a semester
In an effort to make study abroad opportunities available to the widest possible audience, CIEE offers scholarships each year to students who demonstrate both academic excellence and financial need.
Eligibility Acceptance into CIEE program
Application Deadline: April 1 for summer & fall, November 1 for spring programs

Alliance Scholarship	Up to $4,500
These scholarships are need-based, with preference given to minorities and students from non-traditional majors for Alliance programs in India and China.
Eligibility Participation in an affiliated Alliance program in India or China Demonstrated financial need
Application Deadline: March 1 for all summer programs; April 1 for fall India programs; April 15 for fall China programs; October 15 for spring India programs; November 1 for spring China programs

LSE John C Phelan General Course Scholarships	Up to £15,000
The London School of Economics is pleased to announce four (4) scholarships with a value between £12,000-15,000 each for students accepted to the one year General Course study programme for 2012/13. This scholarship is available for study on the General Course. It is open to all nationalities and will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need

Loyola JFRC Scholarships	Up to $7,500
Thanks to generous alumni-benefactors, the John Felice Rome Center (JFRC) offers various awards exclusively for students currently enrolled in accredited, baccalaureate-granting U.S. institutions who will be studying abroad at the JFRC during a subsequent semester.
Eligibility Acceptance into the Loyola University Chicago John Felice Rome Center during the fall semester Demonstrated financial need

Learning Abroad Center Scholarship for Non U of M Students	Up to $2,000
The Learning Abroad Center at the University of Minnesota generously offers awards exclusively for non U of M students who will be studying abroad through their programs.
Eligibility Open to Non University of Minnesota Students participating on Learning Abroad Center Programs Must have already applied to a U of M study abroad program Must have already been issued a U of M ID number Demonstrated financial need
Application Deadline: March 6, 2013 for summer programs; April 17, 2013 for fall programs

CIEE GAIN Scholarship	$1,000 - $5,000
The GAIN Scholarship was developed to aide in diversifying study abroad by providing opportunities for students who are economically challenged, from diverse backgrounds, students with documented disabilities, or underrepresented fields of study.

CIEE GAIN Reward	$1,000 - $5,000
The GAIN Rewards were developed to help provide grants to further assist students who are selected as awardees by the highly respected Benjamin A. Gilman and David L. Boren Scholarship programs.
Eligibility Participation on a CIEE program The applicant must have been selected to receive the Boren Scholarship for International Study or the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, and have greater than $1000 in outstanding, documented financial need.
Application Deadline: April 1 for summer and fall programs; November 1 for spring programs

CIEE Michael Stohl Scholarship	$2,500 for semester, $500 for summer
The Michael Stohl Scholarship award was established in honor of Dr. Michael Stohl. These awards are intended to promote the participation in CIEE programs of students who are from nontraditional backgrounds, economically challenged, or first generation college students, or who are planning to conduct international research as part of the study abroad program.
Eligibility Participation on a CIEE program Self-identify as a 1st generation college student, demonstrate financial need, be a non-traditionally aged student, have a non-traditional background, and/or be planning to conduct research as part of the study abroad program. Preference is given to students from public higher education institutions.
Application Deadline: April 1 for summer and fall programs; November 1 for spring programs

CIEE Kathleen McDermott Scholarship	$1,000 - $2,500
The scholarship is in honor of Kathleen McDermott who served on the Executive Committee of the CIEE Academic Consortium Board. Dr. McDermott was an anthropologist, trained nurse, and consummate administrator who cared deeply for students and the experiences that study abroad provided for their intellectual and emotional development.
Eligibility Participation on a CIEE program Self-identify as an under-represented student Student must be either a Public Health or Nursing major, and/or participating in a CIEE Community Public Health study abroad program.
