Barbara Shaw is the Director of the Illinois Violence Prevention Authority, a new state agency charged with planning, coordinating, funding, and evaluating public health and public safety approaches to violence prevention in Illinois. Barbara conceived the Authority and promoted is enabling legislation during her tenure as co-founder and executive director of the Illinois Council for the Prevention of Violence. She also was a leader in developing Family Violence Coordinating Councils throughout Illinois, and co-founded and directed the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Barbara has 20 years experience in the violence prevention field, working at community and statewide levels mobilizing the public, private, and community sectors to address family and community violence. Her efforts have resulted in many new programs, policies, resources, and partnerships dedicated to the prevention of interpersonal violence.
