1998: UIC's top freshman competitor…had back-to-back first
place finishes
on the still rings during the season…taking first at home versus Michigan
with a season and career high 9.750…followed that performance up with a
top finish at Illinois with a 9.650…also set a career high on the vault at
Illinois with a 9.550…grabbed third on the still rings at Iowa with a
9.525…finished third on the rings at home versus Michigan State with a
9.550…took second on the rings at Navy with a 9.650…set a career high on
the horizontal bar versus Michigan with a 9.100.
Personal/Prep: As a senior, organized St. Rita's first-ever
gymnastics
team…competed on the still rings, pommel horse and parallel bars after
having ACL surgery…qualified for the state tournament …as a junior, and
the only member of the St. Rita gymnastics team, he shared state champion
honors on the floor exercise with fellow UIC teammate Anthony Cirullo,
scoring a 9.40… on the still rings, became state champion, while setting a
new state record of 9.80…took second at state on the vault and high bar
and third on the parallel bars…was the IHSA Regional Champion on every
event but the pommel horse and the sectional champ on the rings, bars and
floor…earned Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times Athlete of the Week
accolades during the year and was named the St. Rita Mustang of the
Month…was active in St. Rita's Peer Ministry, Student Council and French
Club and was a member of the National Honor Society…plans to major in
Exercise Physiology…born March 8, 1979…son of Bruce and Sarah Johnson.
