CampusCare Student Health Insurance Program
UIC requires that all registered students be covered by health insurance and provides a plan, known as CampusCare, for which a fee is automatically assessed--along with tuition and other fees-- in each term you register for courses. If you are a continuing UIC student and register for either the 4 or the 8-week summer session (or the 12-week/2-course Intensive pilot program) you will be enrolled automatically in CampusCare for the summer months. CampusCare benefits include:
- Physician, hospital and emergency room services
- Discounted vision and dental program
- Behavioral health services
- Prescription drug program
Dates of Coverage
CampusCare coverage begins on Monday, May 18, 2009 for students who register for any summer courses before Monday June 1, 2009. If you register for courses after June 1, 2009, your coverage will begin on the date you register. To avoid problems with access to coverage, the CampusCare office advises you to register for courses before May 18. Summer coverage ends on Saturday, August 15, 2009.
Fees
The CampusCare Student Health Insurance fee is one of several fees listed on your E-bill. The fee for the 2009 Summer Session will be $264*. Please note that the Student Health Insurance fee is different from the Student Health Services fee, which is a mandatory fee (cannot be waived). For more information about Student Health Services coverage, go to the Department of Family Medicine website.
If you don’t register for summer courses
If you were a registered student in the Spring semester and had CampusCare, but aren’t going to register for summer session courses at UIC and want to continue your student health insurance coverage over the summer months, you will need to submit an online Summer Continuation Form on the CampusCare website. To avoid a break in coverage, you must complete the form before June 1, 2009. Your E-bill will show a charge of $264 for this coverage.
If you do register for summer courses but already have health insurance
Registered students with comparable health insurance coverage, for example through a legal guardian or an employer, can waive out of CampusCare coverage for summer by submitting the online Waiver Form by Monday, June 1. To complete the form, you will need to provide information about your insurance coverage.
Once approved, a waiver will remain in effect until a Reinstatement Application Form is submitted through the CampusCare website.
* Fees are subject to chance prior to the start of the term.
