How Range Tuition Works
UIC charges range tuition, which means that your tuition is based on the number of semester hours you take. In summer your tuition rate is determined by your cumulative credit hours, regardless if you are enrolled in the 4-week, the 8-week, or both sessions.
If you register for 3-5 semester hours over the summer, your tuition is in Range II. If you register for 6 or more semester hours, regardless if it they are all in the 8-week session or from a combination of classes in the 4- and 8-week session, your tuition is in Range I.
As a general rule, undergraduate degree seeking and nondegree students may take up to 12 credit hours over the summer without special approval. Graduate students can take up to 20 credit hours over the summer, without special approval.
Determining Residency
For University policy governing residency, check Residency Requirements. Note to Permanent Residents: If you believe you are eligible for resident tuition, please submit a copy of your permanent resident card to the Office of Admissions. You can fax it to the attention of Special Projects/Summer Session Only at (312) 413-7628 or to (312) 996-2953. If you prefer to mail it, send it to: University of Illinois at Chicago Office of Admissions and Records (MC 018), Box 6020, Chicago, IL 60680-6020, Attention: Special Projects/Summer Session Only.
All Other Summer Students
If you are a current UIC student, or a new degree seeking undergraduate student, or a graduate student, please refer to the Detailed Tuition and Fee Information for All Students and the Explanation of Tuition and Fees on the UIC Registration website. In addition to a full, itemized listing of all tuition and fees based on your student level (undergraduate or graduate), residency (Illinois resident or non-resident), curriculum/college, and range (the number of credit hours taken) you will also find the summer refund schedule.
Health Insurance
Summer Session Only students, in addition to all freshmen, transfer, and graduate students new to UIC, are assessed the CampusCare Health Insurance Fee as part of their tuition and fees and are automatically enrolled in CampusCare - a comprehensive package of supplemental health benefits designed to provide protection against accidents and unexpected illnesses. Students enrolled in CampusCare may also enroll qualified dependents.
The Health Insurance Fee will be one of the fees that appear on your E-bill, the online student account statement. The rate for the 2008 Summer Session will be $264. (Note: Fees are subject to change prior to the start of the term.)
If you have comparable health insurance coverage, you may "opt out" of CampusCare by submitting an online Waiver Form on the “Forms” page on the CampusCare website by the published deadline (see “Key Dates”). You will be asked to provide your University Identification Number (UIN), which will appear on your Notice of Admission letter as your Applicant ID, and information about your insurance company on the Waiver Form. Once approved, a waiver remains in effect until a Reinstatement Application Form is submitted by the published deadline.
For detailed information about CampusCare, or to submit an online Waiver Form, Dependent Enrollment Form, or Reinstatement Application Form, please visit the CampusCare website.
Note that the CampusCare Health Insurance Fee is different from the Health Service Fee, which is a mandatory fee and cannot be waived. For more information about services covered by the Health Service Fee, please go to the “About” page on the Department of Family Medicine website.
